Angkor Thom

Following on from Bangkok - to Siem Reap to see more temples, this time in Cambodia and the World Heritage site at Angkor. These are Khmer temples dating from the 8th to 12th century. It was v v hot but without the humidity.

As with Bangkok, we opted for a locally run 3* hotel - the Angkor Star. Very good on all counts.
Thoroughly enjoyed a few restful hours on the sunlounger after great exertions around Angkor.

We started our tour of the site at 7:30, once more with an a/c car and driver. The day was divided in two with a return to the hotel for lunch and a break from the worst of the heat.

First port of call was Angkor Thom and the Bayon Temple. Approx 800 years old and (re)discovered in the early 20th century, Angkor Thom was the capital city of the time and the temple was at its centre.

Photos don't do it justice, but the same can be said of all of Angkor. There follow some general shots of Angkor Thom.

One of four bridges (N,S,E,W) over Angkor Thom's moat and the North Entrance.

General views inside Ankor Thom -
Elephant Terrace and Bayon Temple (as I said, difficult to do it justice).
